PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Seymour 1/4 Ounce Gold Unicorn is the fourth coin in the Royal Mint's Royal Tudor Beasts collection. This collection features the ten 'beast' statues that line the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court and represent the families of the King's line.
The Seymour unicorn is a symbol of purity and fertility, given by Henry VIII to Jane Seymour. With the body of a horse, the tail of a lion, the hooves and beard of a goat, and a spiral horn, it wears a royal crown and is decorated with daisies and roses, which distinguishes it from the Scottish unicorn. The Unicorn bears a six-quartered shield of the Seymour family and is fitted with a gold collar and chain, representing the taming of a wild creature.
In addition, the Seymour 1/4 Ounce Gold Unicorn coin contains 0.25 troy ounces of 999.9 pure gold, as do the Royal Mint's other coins. It will be produced for a few months until the next coin in the series is released. Collectors should therefore buy it as soon as possible in order to obtain all the coins in the series.
OBVERSE :
The obverse of the coin features the official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Martin Jennings.
REVERSE :
Designed by David Lawrence, the reverse of the coin depicts the unicorn of Jane Seymour's household, with an animated chainmail background texture offering additional security.
