PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Royal Tudor Beasts collection is inspired by the ten stone beasts that line the moat bridge at Hampton Court Palace, a symbol of Henry VIII's union with his third wife Jane Seymour. The second of these majestic guardians to feature in the bullion series is the impressive Beaufort Yale.

Similarly, the 'Yale', known as the Beaufort beast, was used by Henry VIII to emphasise his kinship with the Beauforts, a powerful royal family of the House of Lancaster, and to add credibility to his claim to the throne.

In addition, the Yale is a mythical creature with the body of a goat, the tusks of a boar and the tail of a lion. Here it stands on its hind legs while its front legs rest on the shield representing the coat of arms of Jane Seymour.

The beautiful design of this quarter ounce gold coin was created by David Lawrence, an illustrator and sculptor for over 30 years, who now works for the Royal Mint on some amazing projects.

OBVERSE :

The obverse of the coin features the fifth definitive portrait of Her Majesty The Queen, painted by Jody Clark.

Queen Elizabeth wears her diadem, crown and royal jewels. The obverse shows her name, the legal tender of the coin (£25) and the initials D.G REG F.D (By the Grace of God Queen and Defender of the Faith).

REVERSE :

The reverse of the coin shows the body of a goat with the tusks of a boar and the tail of a lion. This animal represents Beaufort's famous "Yale".

It stands on its hind legs while its front legs rest on the shield representing the coat of arms of Jane Seymour.
