HISTORY :

The Julii were members of one of the oldest patrician families in ancient Rome. Its members attained the highest state dignities in the early days of the Republic. The first of the family to gain the consulship was Gaius Julius Iulus in 489 BC. The family is best known for Gaius Julius Caesar, dictator and uncle of the emperor Augustus, through whom the name passed to the Julio-Claudian dynasty of the first century AD. The name Julius became quite common during the Empire, as the descendants of the citizens under the early emperors began to leave their mark on history.
