Adolph A. Weinman was a sculptor and disciple of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the man who is considered one of the greatest coin designers in American history. Weinman's depiction of the Walking Liberty was created in 1916 and appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar between 1916 and 1947.

Today, Weinman's design is featured on the United States Mint's American Silver Eagle coin, as well as the Walking Liberty Silver Round 1 oz Sunshine.
