HISTORY :
The Calpurnii were members of a plebeian family in Rome, which appears in history in the third century BC. Gaius Calpurnius Piso was the first member to obtain a consulship in 180 BC, and consulships became very frequent from then on. The Piso family became one of the most illustrious in the Roman state. Two important pieces of republican legislation, the lex Calpurnia of 149 BC and the lex Acilia Calpurnia of 67 BC were passed by members of the family.
