HISTORY :
After the assassination of Caracalla on 8 April 217, Macrin was acclaimed emperor on 11 April. He remained in Antioch throughout his reign. In order to win over the supporters of the Severan family, he took the title of Severus and had Caracalla deified. However, he ended up clashing with the army, which missed Caracalla. Soldiers, stationed in Emesa, proclaimed Elagabal on 16 May 218. Defeated in June, Macrin fled. On learning of the death of his son Diadumenian, he tried to commit suicide by throwing himself from his chariot and was finished off by his own soldiers.
