PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A royal coin from the 16th century, this gold shield is known as the "Sun shield" because of the star on the obverse. The legal tender value of this coin was increased several times during the war, the economic crisis and the outflow of coins to foreign countries where they were melted down. Initially set at 3 livres et 15 sols under the reign of Henri IV, it reached 5 livres et 4 sols in 1636.
