On December 5, 1360, in Compiègne, Jean II created a new currency, the "franc", of the same value as the existing currency, the livre tournois. He is represented as a free "franc" on a galloping horse

Description: John II on horseback, galloping to the left, sword raised, wearing a crowned helmet topped with a lily, wearing over his chain mail a fleurdelisé coat of arms; the caparison of the horse is fleurdelisé.

REVERSE :
Description: Leafy cross with quatrefoil in heart, within a quatrefoil decorated with palmettes and flanked by four hollowed-out shamrocks.
