PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Rare coinage, less than 1000 examples.
Gaston d'Orléans was the brother of Louis XIII, who became Prince of the Principality of Dombes on the death of Marie de Montpellier in 1627. Initially, he continued to mint coins in his wife's name until 629, when they were transferred to his own name. The coins of Gaston d'Orléans are characterized by their strong resemblance to the typology of royal specie. Gaston's coins include a few gold coins, silver demi écus, silver écu and a large number of copper coins such as deniers tournois or liards.
