HISTORY :
The noble d'or is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic coins of the Hundred Years' War, formalizing English claims to the crown of France. The coin's obverse shows Henry VI Plantagenet ready for battle, carrying a sword in his right hand and a shield in his left. On the same shield are the Plantagenet arms, three lions in profile and the French fleurs-de-lis. The King of England's claim to the crown of France was now unambiguous.
