PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
First issued in 1990, the Australian Kookaburra is a series of trusted silver bullion coins featuring the iconic bird that takes its name from the Wiradjuri word 'gugubarra'. The Kookaburra is one of Australia's most recognisable bird species.
So when the Perth Mint introduced the Silver Kookaburra series in 1990, the collection marked the first silver coin series based in Western Australia.
The coin series represents a collection of silver bullion coins minted by the Perth Mint. These coins have become increasingly popular with collectors due to their beautiful designs which showcase Australian flora and fauna.
The Perth Mint uses a new image of the Kookaburra on the reverse each year. The effigy of the Queen used on the coins has changed several times, with the 2023 version being the last to represent Her Majesty following the death of Elizabeth II in September 2022.
For example, the 34th annual Kookaburra design from 2023 depicts two birds perched on branches surrounding the waratah, an indigenous floral treasure. The design includes the inscription 'KOOKABURRA', the Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark, the date 2023 and the coin's weight and purity.
OBVERSE :
The obverse of the coin features the commemorative effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark, depicting the Queen wearing the state diadem of George IV and the years of her reign; this is the last time the late Queen will appear on these coins. The coin also features the face value "30 DOLLARS".
REVERSE :
Two kookaburras appear on the reverse of the 2023 Australian Kookaburra silver coins. The exclusive 2023 design shows two birds perched in the branches of a waratah plant. Kookaburras are native to Australia and represent the largest member of the kingfisher species, while the waratah is also a plant native to Australia.
