The reverse of the American Eagle, originally designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the country's $20 gold piece minted from 1907 to 1933, features the St. Gaudens liberty striding toward the viewer, holding aloft a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. The top of the White House is visible in the bottom left of the design, and oak leaves representing strength are near the bottom right. Stars trace the rim, with LIBERTY written just over the goddess.
