PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Russian 5 Ruble gold coins are fascinating relics of Imperial Russia. Containing a little over one-tenth of an ounce of gold, they are slightly smaller than a dime. Minted from 1897 to 1911, they offer an established collector premium over their gold value yet they are inexpensive in today market.

OBVERSE : Head of Nicholas II. Nicholas II (1868-1918), the last Czar of Russia, ruled from 1896 to 1917. Studious and well educated, Nicholas was widely considered to be the most intelligent of his contemporary European monarchs, but contradictions in his character led to inconsistency in his reign.
REVERSE : The reverse of this 5 rouble coin features the device of the imperial coat of arms and seal of 'His Tsarist Majesty': a two-headed eagle (first introduced by Ivan the Terrible) now with three crowns to represent the sum of the two Tartar kingdoms of Astrakhan and Kazan in addition to the Russian realm. Hanging over the eagle's breast is a shield on which a horseman is slaying a dragon -- a symbol well known to all holders of the popular British Sovereign.
