Translation: "Gragulus".

Description: Head of Rome on the right, wearing a winged helmet; under the chin, mark.

Legend: L.AES // ROMA

Translation: "Lucius Antestius // Roma".

Description: Jupiter in a quadriga galloping right, holding a long sceptre and reins in his left hand and brandishing a thunderbolt in his right hand.


HISTORY :

The Antestii, sometimes Antistii, were members of a plebeian family in Rome; the name Antestii is certainly older given the comparisons and developments in the coinage of the family. The first member to be recognised was Sextus Antistius, tribune of the people in 422 BC.
