PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This 2 oz. silver coin pays tribute to an iconic motif of American currency, the Indian, which appears on the US $10 coin.
The 10 US Dollar Indian 2 Ounce Silver coin is minted in a small 39mm size creating a thicker appearance.
The US $10 Indian gold coin or eagle was minted by the US Mint continuously from 1907 to 1916 and then irregularly until 1933.
The obverse and reverse of this coin were designed by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, originally commissioned for another purpose. He died before the coins were released and never saw them in person.
Although called the "Indian Head Gold Eagle", the obverse design is not of a Native American, but of Lady Liberty, facing left, wearing an Indian headdress or feathered war bonnet, with "LIBERTY" inscribed on the bonnet band. Above the bust, thirteen stars represent the early states or colonies.
OBVERSE :
The obverse shows a bust of Liberty facing left, wearing a feathered Indian headdress on her head; 13 stars surmount the design.
REVERSE :
An eagle standing, perched on a bundle of arrows and an olive branch. To the right of the eagle's head are the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and to the left of the eagle's head the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST".
On the outer rim are the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the metal weight "TWO TROY OUNCES".
