PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Discover The Royal Mint's new collection of coins inspired by the royal beasts of the Tudors. The Lion of England is the first of ten heraldic creatures that stand guard as statues over the moat at Hampton Court Palace.
Embodying the strength of the Tudor dynasty, they symbolise the ancestry of Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour. The tradition of mythical beasts representing the values of a kingdom began centuries ago, when heraldic creatures appeared on flags and banners on the battlefield to unite and lead armies and frighten off the enemy.
This two ounce silver coin is also available in several gold and silver versions.
OBVERSE :
The obverse of the coin also features a portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by Jody Clark.
REVERSE :
The reverse, designed by David Lawrence, shows the Lion of England threatening. The design is inspired by the royal beasts of the moat bridge at Hampton Court Palace. The design is also enhanced by a background texture.
