PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Tudor Beasts Lion of England 10 oz Silver coin is the second coin in the Royal Mint's Tudor Beasts series.
It features David Lawrence's design of a crowned lion, showing its teeth and protecting the royal arms of King Henry VIII and Jane Seymour.
The English lion, one of the most iconic beasts in heraldry, is an ancient symbol of pride and courage and has been present on royal emblems since 1200 when it first appeared on the shield. The animal holds up two shields which are impaled - or combined - by those of King Henry VIII and Queen Jane Seymour. This signifies their strength during the marriage, but also shows how they were able to combine the traditions of both families into what we know today of this great kingdom.
Each of these Tudor Beasts silver coins is struck in 999 millennium fine silver and contains ten ounces of the precious metal.
This coin is also one of 156 issued in this limited edition presentation.
OBVERSE :
The obverse of the coin features a profile portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by Jody Clark, highlighted by a background texture.
REVERSE :
Created by illustrator David Lawrence, the design depicts the Lion of England, the royal beast of the Tudors, snarling with its sharp claws holding the royal shield between its paws, a crown is placed on its head.
