PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE COIN :
The Perth Mint is the official currency of Australia and is owned by the Government of Western Australia. Founded on 20 June 1899, two years before the Australian Federation of 1901, the Perth Mint was the last of the three Australian colonial branches of the Royal Mint of the United Kingdom (after the now defunct Sydney and Melbourne Mints) to mint gold sovereigns and half-sovereigns for the British Empire.
Similarly, the Perth Mint is renowned for the quality of its coins and creates products that are celebrated around the world. The Lunar series is one of its flagship series.
Since its inception in 1996, the Lunar series produced by the Perth Mint has been a hit with collectors and investors.
Also, the gold Lunar III series has been minted by the Perth Mint in Australia since 2020. As with the previous series, the animal motif changes each year in reference to the Chinese lunar calendar (Zodiac), with each year represented by an animal with a particular symbolic meaning. The 2023 Year of the Rabbit gold coin is the fourth of twelve designs in this series.
The mintage of this coin is limited to 30,000 pieces worldwide.
OBVERSE :
The obverse of the coin features Queen Elizabeth II. The design was created by Jody Clark and chosen in 2015 following a competition commissioned by the UK Royal Mint's Advisory Committee. It depicts the 89-year-old Queen. In this now familiar design, the Queen wears her diademed crown and royal jewels and the design is so detailed that you can even see the lines of Her Majesty's face and wrinkles.
Above the Queen's effigy is the script ELIZABETH II and AUSTRALIA, the purity and fineness and the monetary denomination.
REVERSE :
The design on the reverse of the coin depicts and features the animal of the moment: the rabbit. According to Chinese astrology, rabbits are predicted to be gentle, calm and alert, but also quick, skilful and very agile. It is drawn hopping over leaves and grass with all four paws in the air. On this side the inscriptions are: the Chinese character for "rabbit", "RABBIT 2023" and the Perth Mint seal "P".
