PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Monneron brothers had the 2 and 5 sols coins manufactured in England in large quantities using Watt's steam engines from 1791 onwards. These coins were created to alleviate the monetary shortage in France. In 1792 the Monnerons went bankrupt, and one of the two brothers tried to take over the business until the law of 3 May 1792 prohibited all private coinage. Nevertheless, the Monneron Monnaies de confiance circulated until the end of 1793.
