The Royal Mint (RM) is the world's leading export mint, producing coins and medals for an average of 60 countries each year. However, its primary responsibility is to manufacture and distribute the coins (bullion and modern) of the United Kingdom, as well as to provide official medals.
Indeed, it has been making money for over a thousand years.
Similarly, the Royal Mint has minted the coins of British monarchs from Alfred the Great to the present day with the portrait of the new King Charles III.
It also develops many bullion coins including commemorative coins.
For example, the Royal Mint has developed various coin sets such as the Royal Tudor Beasts.
The Royal Tudor Beasts collection is inspired by the ten stone beasts that line the moat bridge at Hampton Court Palace, a symbol of Henry VIII's union with his third wife Jane Seymour. One of the most majestic coins to feature in this series is the impressive Yale of Beaufort, tenfold in ounce and 1/4 ounce in gold.
The Yale is a mythical creature with the body of a goat, the tusks of a boar and the tail of a lion.
It stands on its hind legs while its front legs rest on the shield representing the coat of arms of Jane Seymour.
Finally, the renowned David Lawrence has captured the mythical Yale on the reverse of the coin, with a background texture animated by chain mail, providing additional security. The obverse of the coin features the fifth definitive portrait of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.
