The obverse of the coin also features the text "DEI GRATIA REGINA" (or "DEI GRATIA REX"), which means "by the grace of God, Queen (or King)", as well as the name of the monarch in office.
On the reverse of the coin is the image of King George on horseback, brandishing a spear, slaying a dragon. This image represents heroism and strength, and has become a symbol of Britain. The reverse of the coin also features the text "BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:" which means "Queen (or King) of the Britons, Defender of the Faith". This inscription is often abbreviated to "FID DEF", which has become a symbol of the British Monarchy.
